Stoneware, porcelain and concrete
Description
Pia was born in Luleå where she currently lives and practices her craft. She was formally educated at the Arctic Arts School and through a variety of courses at other renowned Swedish Art Schools. Her primary media are stoneware, porcelain and concrete although she also works with photography and graphic art. She is fascinated by the potential of clay, the ancient traditions of pottery and the process of turning. Inspired by nature, architecture and man, Pia’s approach and expression are uncomplicated and thematic. Archaeological discoveries, Art Nouveau and Japanese ceramic traditions are also sources of inspiration. With her own glazes and engobes (coloured slip coatings) and carefully selected clays, Pia produces a selection of unique sculptures and jewellery as well as utility goods in small, high-quality series.
Pia about her pieces: During centuries women have, with love and devotion, decorated homes and families with their handicraft. I like to renew the use of knitting and crochet and have explored how these textiles changes the expression of my ceramic. The life I live is immediately reflected in my works and newly-fledged with house and garden my motifs moves in that direction.
